#Data — Browse The 2017 World Map Of Social Networks

Since 2009, Vincenzo Cosenza has been publishing a world map of social networks every year, as a mean to visualize which platform is the most popular in each country.

Here is the 2017 version:

Some insights from this new world map, in comparison to the 2016 version:

  • While Facebook remains leader in 119 out of 149 countries analyzed, Mark Zuckerberg’s platform lost leadership in 9 countries..
  • In particular, Vkontakte now dominates Russia & QZone leads in China.
  • Instagram & LinkedIn took over several countries in Africa, as well as Indonesia & Iran.

Additionally, the world map of social networks ranked second presents interesting patterns:

  • Instagram is a clear winner, being ranked second in 37 countries.
  • Reddit conquered the second place in 5 countries, including Canada & Australia.
  • Facebook is on the second step of the podium in Japan (behind Twitter).

What’s in it for social media managers: depending on your target market & audience, it’s useful to understand macro-level dynamics and make sure your brand is present where people are going (next), not only where they are (and used to be).
