What does BOPIS mean?
BOPIS is an acronym standing for Buy Online Pick-up In Store.
How big is the phenomenon?
According to a recent study by Retale, polling 500 consumers who had previously bought online and picked up in-store across the U.S.:
When respondents were asked how frequently they bought online and picked up in-store, the most common response, with 44%, was “every few months.” 25% said they use the service monthly, while 13% choose to pick up in-store weekly. Only 14% said they had only bought online and picked-up in-store once.
Why does it matter for us, social media managers?
As more and more consumers are going to buy online and pick-up in store, customer service issues — and solutions — may get more involved and require both a deeper and more global understanding of internal processes, and connections with more departments inside the company.
