If you like Easter Eggs, you are going to love this one.
Particularly because it has been seating here, right under our nose, for a couple of weeks now.
Yes: you can play Chess on Facebook Messenger.
You just need a secret code. 😉
How to launch the game
Launching the game is actually pretty easy:
- On Facebook, open a Messenger conversation (either a new one, or an existing one).
- Type @fbchess play
A Chess board will appear in the window, and your friend will go first.
How to play
Playing the game is a tight more complicated.
But no worries, the great folks at Lifehacker have put together a pretty cool guide:
Select a piece using K for king, Q for queen, B for bishop, N for knight, R for rook, or P for pawn.
Then add the letter and number representing the space you want to move it on the board.
So, for example, you’d type @fbchess Pd4 to move it to that space. If more than one piece can go there, you’ll be asked which one to move.
By the way, if you want a larger view of the chess board, click on the chat menu settings icon and select “See Full Conversation.”
In addition, you can always get the full list of commands by typing @fbchess help.
What we think
Sure, that may not be the absolute best Chess game available out there.
But if you want to play Chess à la Social Media Manager, that’s how you do it.
