According to a recent survey by Pew Research Center and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, a total of 62% of adults in the U.S. get news via social networks:

Interestingly, Reddit is the social network where users are the most likely to get news on (70%), before Facebook (66%), but the latter mechanically remains leader in terms of reach because of its mammoth size.
What does these results teach us?
That a huge opportunity to reach U.S. adults exists for brands and businesses willing to share informational content — rather than promotional content only — on their social profiles, as a vast majority of users are highly interested in getting news via social networks.
