You’ve heard of the Six Degrees of Separation, right?
In a nutshell, this theory states that anybody on Earth is connected to anybody else by a chain of 5 friends of friends, maximum.
Basically:
1/ you know a guy
2/ who knows a guy
3/ who knows a guy
4/ who knows a guy
5/ who knows a guy
6/ who knows the President of your country, your favorite football player or anyone on the other side of the globe.
And that’s of course the “worst-case scenario”.
When you think about it, this is already pretty amazing… and it gets even better.
According to a recent, fascinating experimentation by Facebook:
Each person in the world (at least among the 1.59 billion people active on Facebook) is connected to every other person by an average of three and a half other people.
In other words, the Six Degrees of Separation are shrinking.
Undoubtedly, Facebook helps us connect with friends and the world around us.
Bonus: if you follow the link above, you will see how closely you are connected to “some” Facebook employees, including Mark Zuckerberg himself.
